Glossary term: Protected characteristic


important parts of a person’s identity that are set out in B.C.’s Human Rights Code as factors that cannot be discriminated against in most situations. These include age, family status, mental disability, religion, ancestry, gender expression, physical disability, sex, colour, gender identity, place of origin, sexual orientation, criminal conviction, marital status, political belief, source of income and race.
