“Across B.C., there are inequalities in the systems we interact with everyday or when we are in need of extra support – from schools to workplaces; from hospitals to courthouses. Such inequities impact all of us, but impact marginalized people and communities in particular. We must ensure that we place human rights considerations at the centre of key issues concerning housing, climate, child protection, criminal justice and public health because these systems are instrumental in either protecting or undermining our human dignity and rights entitlements.” – B.C. Human Rights Commissioner, Kasari Govender

In this 45 minute webinar, B.C.’s Human Rights Commissioner Kasari Govender will provide participants an overview of her Office’s recently published report, “Rights in focus: Lived Realities in B.C.” This report highlights significant inequities and injustices affecting B.C. residents, providing a crucial tool to understand the current state of human rights in our province and a kind of baseline to monitor change over time. We welcome participants to join Commissioner Govender in this info session where she will explore the purpose of the report, how this work was done by BCOHRC, and provide an overview of the key issues highlighted in the report. This will be followed by a brief Q and A session where participants will have the opportunity to submit questions to the Commissioner regarding the report.
