Glossary term: Classism

Classism is the belief that people in some social or economic classes, such as the working class, are more valuable than others. People with lower income or less access to resources are assumed to be less worthy of respect and consideration, less able to contribute and take part, and of less value than other people. Classism can be conscious or unconscious and is embedded in institutions, systems and the broader culture of a society.
