Translation purposes

While we offer automatic “machine” translation across our website, we are mindful that this kind of translation can be imperfect. Given that, we occasionally have materials professionally translated, in consideration of the following purposes:

  • to ensure the linguistic and ethnocultural groups most affected by a given issue or who would benefit most from a given material are able to access those materials in the languages to which they most relate
  • to respond to the needs of people in British Columbia who primarily speak languages other than English, including members of ethnocultural communities, by ensuring those with the least English proficiency can access a wide range of BCOHRC materials
  • to ensure BCOHRC contributes to revitalizing and legitimizing the use of Indigenous languages spoken in B.C.
  • to increase awareness of BCOHRC and human rights among a variety of linguistic and ethnocultural groups in B.C.
  • to increase engagement with BCOHRC’s public-facing materials among a variety of linguistic and ethnocultural groups in B.C.

Where to find translations

When translations become available, we are sure to share them via our social media channels: Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

BCOHRC’s main website (bchumanrights.ca) also hosts landing pages for commonly translated languages. Each landing page includes all materials translated into the language in question, a short overview of BCOHRC’s translation policy and an invitation to provide feedback. Current landing pages include:

简体中文 | 繁體中文 | Français | ਪੰਜਾਬੀ | فارسی | Tagalog | 한국어 | Español | عربى | Tiếng Việt
