Discrimination

Vancouver, B.C. – Systemic discrimination is a major issue in B.C. and Canada, yet many people don’t know what it is or how to recognize it. That’s why B.C.’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner will be launching a new animated short video, Introduction to Systemic Discrimination, on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 12:15 p.m. PST. The launch event will last 15 minutes and include an appearance from B.C.’s Human Rights Commissioner, Kasari Govender. Media are invited to attend the virtual launch by tuning in on LinkedIn, YouTube or Facebook Live.

Because systemic discrimination is poorly understood, some people have experienced it without realizing, and some have unknowingly created or perpetuated discriminatory systems. BCOHRC created the Introduction to Systemic Discrimination video and discussion guide to help simplify this complex concept, as part of the Office’s mandate to educate British Columbians about human rights. These resources will be released to the public following the screening.
