The B.C. Human Rights Code gives everyone in the province equal rights and opportunities in the following situations, also known as protected areas:

  • employment (for any jobs including full time, seasonal, part-time, student summer jobs, etc.)
  • housing (including owning a home, leasing and renting)
  • services (including any places that provide a service or sell goods)

The purpose of the Code is to prevent discrimination and harassment in these areas of life, based on the protected grounds listed in the Our Rights section.
